A student-written BASIC computer program is discussed, which allows students to examine the thermal and economic performance of cool storage for several building mechanical applications in various U.S. locations. For a given site and building type, the program calculates the thermal performance of a conventional system, a load-leveling system, and a full storage system. Then, for a given set of economic parameters the program estimates the first cost and annual operating costs of each system. Graphs of the daily capacity profile for each system are also provided.
