For many years the members of T.C. 3.5, Sorption, have been concerned about the lack of any recognised procedure for making an accurate estimation of annual energy consumption for those situations in which dehumidification is the principal air conditioning requirement.

PHASE I was to be the analytical part of the project, involving a literature search, mathematical modeling, and some weather data evaluation. This was to be followed by a PHASE II – EXPERIMENTAL, if necessary, and concluded with PHASE III – ANALYSIS GUIDE/SOFTWARE.

The objective of this project is to develop an analytical method of estimating the annual energy consumption and determining the cost-effectiveness of alternative humidity-control systems, including refrigeration, open-sorption dehumidification, and combinations of refrigeration and open-sorption dehumidification.
