With no easy way for the HVAC industry to quickly evaluate the performance of central chiller plants, coupled with the demand for quick results, a less accurate single number evaluation method, such as IPLV (integrated part load value), is being used. The authors explore why using the IPLV method, instead of executing a complete hour-by-hour modeling analysis, often results in poor predictions of equipment energy use.
