In this work, energy analysis of a generator-absorberexchange (GAX) absorption-compression system using ammonia- water as a working fluid with a capacity of 3.54 kW (1 ton of refrigeration [TR]) for space conditioning at an optimum degassing range of 0.458 kg of ammonia per kilogram of strong solution is presented. In the GAX absorption-compression cycle, coefficient of performance (COP) values of 1.33 for cooling and 2.33 for heating were obtained, with an internal energy exchange of 4.819 kW. Energy analysis also was carried out for the GAX conventional cycle, and COP values of 0.95 for cooling and 1.95 for heating were calculated, with an internal energy exchange of 4.658 kW for the same capacity. In the GAX section comprising the GAX absorber and the GAX desorber, energy exchange in a GAX absorption-compression cycle is 19% higher than in a GAX conventional cycle. Comparison of GAX absorption-compression and GAX conventional cycles re-vealed that the GAX compressionabsorption cycle gives a 27% higher COP value than the GAX conventional cycle. The results from this study and the published results in the literature are compared and a reasonable agreement is observed.
