Deals with a method for measuring non-uniform thermal environments using a new thermal manikin with controlled skin surface temperature. Describes the manikin and its control logic and proposes and discusses an equivalent temperature based on the manikin. Also gives a method to calculate the PMV index from manikin heat loss. Fundamental data were collected to calibrate these methods. Shows that the manikin-based equivalent temperature is effective at accounting for the effects of local heat sources and asymmetrical environmental conditions.
