Desiccant cooling (i.e., .using stored concentrated liquid desiccant) continuously regenerated from dedicated waste heat (i.e., supplied from cogeneration package units) allows cost-effective decoupling of sensible and latent load at cooling coils. This provides higher chilled water temperatures for comfort control and also results in lower energy use when integrated with packaged cogeneration air-preconditioning and evaporative chilling HVAC components. The results of a comprehensive evaluation of various prototypical liquid desiccant designs will be presented using representative current generation (post-Title 24) five-story buildings. In this way, the practical application of novel off-peak desiccant/evaporative chilling systems referred to as OPDECS and related synergistic benefits in office buildings will be presented.
