The one calendar year research project employed commercially available CFD code to generate flow coefficient data for 9 ductwork fittings. The DEC workstation by Digital Corp., the platform upon which the computational work was performed, was in almost constant use around the clock for the 12 month duration of the project The computer code was used to produce the total pressure drop data necessary to compute the flow coefficients, as well as to produce flowfield plots and static pressure plots.
The agreement between the published and representative computational results were considered good. The good agreement has ted to the conclusion that computational techniques can be effectively utilized to verify and expand the ASHRAE Duct Htting Database (1994).
