The objectives of the present research are as follows:
- Undertake a literature survey on horizontal tube flooded evaporators, especially in the area of air-conditioning and refrigeration applications.
- Perform smooth tube and enhanced surface tube experiments for both single tube and tube bundle geometries using a horizontal orientation.
- Evaluate different temperatures and flow conditions for ammonia to establish optimum (best performance) conditions.
- Quantify the effects of surface enhancement on shell-side heat transfer coefficient.
- Quantify the effects of miscible lubricant on shell-side heat transfer coefficient.
- Develop correlations/charts suitable for publication in ASHRAE Handbooks.
Task I included a literature search; Task II encompassed the experimental effort.
