1. Scope
1.1
This Standard applies to devices rated up to 800 A and up to 750 V ac for use in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, as follows: (a) pin and sleeve, butt connections, and similar devices; (b) connectors, receptacles, plugs, and similar devices used to provide power from branch circuits or to connect directly to branch circuit wiring.,,

The devices covered by this Standard are for use in making readily detachable electrical connections utilizing a variety of current and voltage ratings.
1.3
Devices rated over 200 A are not intended for current interrupting purposes.
1.4
This Standard does not apply to (a) pull-off plugs covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 57; (b) receptacles, attachment plugs, connectors, and adapters intended for use in hazardous locations covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 159; (c) general use attachment plugs, receptacles, and similar wiring devices covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 42; (d) industrial locking type special use attachment plugs, receptacles, and connectors covered in CSA Standard C22.2 no. 182.2; (e) special use attachment plugs, receptacles, and connectors covered in CSA Standard C22.2 No. 182.3; and (f) connections on signal circuits or for connections made internally in equipment. Note: For purposes of this Standard, signal circuits are either Class 2 or circuits under 1 A.
