Ventilation to remove and control particulates in the industrial environment to levels below the OSHA Standards requires cooperation and team work between ventilation engineers and industrial hygienists. The engineer can design a system to remove the contaminant and the industrial hygienist can evaluate the effectiveness of the design by sampling the workers’ environment. This paper tries to provide the ventilation engineer with information on sampling methods and techniques used by the industrial hygienist in monitoring levels of particulate contaminants in an industrial environment.
