Indoor environmental quality needs to be part of the discussion from day one in designing efficient buildings and developing energy efficiency programs, not an afterthought or otherwise an exercise in lip service. The author discusses the tenements of late 19th century New York and the effect that their IEQ had on changing people’s thinking about the health of occupants.
