The advantages and disadvantages of site-built solar collectors are discussed. Low costs due to reduction of redundancy in materials and labor are balanced against increased design overhead and liability. Examples of three built systems are presented. Typical cross-sections of collectors and typical pricing are shown. Quality control problems are discussed. Conclusions include a recommendation for pre-manufacture of specialized components to facilitate delivery of a more reliable product.
