If foam systems are part of your fire protection plan, the latest edition of NFPA 11 is a key resource.

NFPA 11, Standard for Low-, Medium-, and High-Expansion Foam, is the industry standard for the design, installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of expansion and compressed air foam systems for fire protection. The standard can be used with fixed, semi-fixed, or portable systems for both interior and exterior hazards.

Changes to the standard impact fire protection designers and engineers, as well as installers, property managers, and system maintainers.

In the 2021 edition of NFPA 11, two new chapters are added. Chapter 6, Low-Expansion Foam Sprinkler and Spray Systems, incorporates requirements from NFPA 16, Standard for the Installation of Foam-Water Sprinkler and Foam-Water Spray Systems. Chapter 13, Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance, offers more robust and comprehensive ITM requirements. The updates also address synthetic fluorine free foam (SFFF) testing and research, rim fire testing of non-metallic floating roof structures, and the latest coverage of all types of foam systems. Also, as a result of research and testing, several requirements were added for compressed air foam systems. (Print, 166 pp., 2021)
