The incredible occupancy variation in data centers represents a compliance challenge with the prescriptive approach of building and energy codes that seek to handle each occupancy group in a unique and prescribed fashion. The author says a successful data center design needs to deploy a performance-based, flexible approach to accommodate all these variables and continuous changes in occupancy.
