A hot wire anemometer, placed in the liquid line of an air conditioner, is shown to give a measure of the state of the refrigerant. In particular, during start-up, that phase is noted to change Pram vapor to liquid. This time for flooding is related to part of the transients noted in the cooling by the evaporator.
