The increased emphasis being placed upon the conservation of energy makes it imperative that all fan installations be sized and operated near optimum efficiency. The only way to insure that any air-handling system is performing correctly is to field-test and monitor the fan and installation during every day of operation. However, this is easier said than done. Most people are not familiar with the type of test data required nor how to obta1n it. For these reasons Appendix A of A Guide to the Measurement of Fan-System Performance in the Field was written. Appendix A must be used in conjunction with the major port1on of the Guide as well as Parts One and Two of the AMCA Fan Application Manual. Appendix A presents a variety of typ1cal field installations, and offers some rational guidelines for obtaining the necessary test data for the application of system effect factors and for the calculation of final test results.
The general approach to testing any fan installation can be divided into twelve individual steps. If theae steps are followed, they will provide sufficient guidance for testing nearly every application. The first six steps are 1nstructions for obtaining all the necessary test data. The second series of six steps involve reducing the test data into final results.
