Although risk management is critical to any engineering firm, risk prevention is equally important. This article describes means of preventing legal disputes and litigation, minimizing an engineer’s liability. It also introduces engineers to liability mitigation by describing various risk prevention means and methods available to building design engineers. Such liability topics include design contract principles and related clauses, design phase topics such as specifications, and construction phase issues.
