The performance of a commercial 30-ton dynamic ice storage system was measured in a dedicated laboratory test facility and the results analysed. The ice storage system was tested over a wide range of operating conditions to characterise the ice-generating performance as a function of condensing conditions ice-building time, and defrosting time. The overall efficiency of ice production was determined, and the effect of refrigeration system component performance on overall system efficiency was evaluated. The ability of the charged system – a tank of ice slush – to meet a simulated cooling load was also evaluated.
