Modelling efforts have demonstrated the superiority of a Type 1M (moderate) isotherm in achieving high coefficients of performance (COP) and cooling capacities for gas-fired desiccant cooling applications. Desiccant systems that exhibit Type 1M behaviour are discussed. Material property determinations presented include adsorption/desorption isotherms, adsorption rate, heat of adsorption, and cyclic aging performance. Properties were measured on individual material components as well as selected component mixtures. Isotherms from real materials were used as inputs to a desiccant cooling system model, and predicted performance was nearly identical to that for a Type 1M desiccant.
