A 35-day demonstration of burning coal-water fuel slurry (CWF) was conducted at a plant in Memphis, TN. The aims were to determine slurry handling characteristics, slurry burning characteristics, and boiler and burner design parameters. This paper discusses the general conduct of the test, slurry specifications, slurry transportation and handling, equipment modifications, and general results. The test was a success and proved the viability of coal-water slurry as an alternative fuel.
