A theoretical treatment of firing rate and efficiency of furnaces and boilers was developed and validated against experimental data. The effect. on efficiency, both steady-state and under cycling conditions, was then studied. Results were obtained that shed light on the relationship between firing rate and cycle efficiency. Some impediments to the achievement of all of the expected improvement in steady-state efficiency were also elucidated.
