Resilience is becoming increasingly recognized as a critical goal for buildings and communities, particularly in the face of recent floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes. Fortunately, the costs in lives, livelihoods and quality of life from natural, technological, and human-caused hazards can be reduced by better managing disaster risks.
