Weather data is needed when we conducted building energy simulations. There are two types of weather data for building energy simulations; one is a typicalweather year and the other is a design weather data. The purpose of the two types of weather data and their collection methods are different. The typicalweather year is primarily used for estimating annual energy consumption, while the design weather data is used for estimating peak energy demand. In thispaper, we present a new type of weather year data called a typical and design weather year (TDWY), which can be used as both typical weather year anddesign weather data in building energy simulations. The method to prepare the TDWY presented here is based on the quantile mapping (QM) method. The cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) of the TDWY obtained by QM consist completely with that of parent multi-year weather data for all themeteorological parameters used in QM. We explained the method of developing the TDWY based on QM and investigated the TDWY’s properties forbuilding energy simulations.
