A university used its thermal loops to study the applicability of the expansion tank sizing formulas in the 2016 ASHRAE Handbook–HVAC Systems and Equipment to existing large district systems. The result is a useful guide for design engineers and plant personnel to design and maintain expansion tanks in large district thermal loops.
