The Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) at NREL was programmed to be both a model of energy efficiency and to highlight the tremendous potential for energy reuse through waste heat recovery. Waste heat from the building’s 10,000 ft² (929 m²) data center completely heats the building’s office and conference areas, and is used in the first stage of heating lab makeup air.
