Designing an HVAC system for a beachfront hotel can be challenging because of the hot, humid, and salt-laden atmosphere. Designers of the Springhill Suites in Pensacola Beach, Fla., used a hybrid geothermal system to address the challenges of building a hotel on an island. Annual data for this hotel site shows excellent results. With only a few of the hybrid geothermal system components exposed to the harsh ocean salt atmosphere, expensive component replacement is reduced along with substantial life-cycle cost reduction.
