The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an insulating window shade in actual use. Data from this study were compared with predicted laboratory results. Four rooms in a commercial inn were used to test the insulating effectiveness of a window shade. Two rooms were used as a control (conventional draperies only) and two rooms were used as experimental (conventional draperies and window shade). Comparison of measured results (heat loss through the external walls and windows) were made with calculated results. Projected dollar savings per window per heating season were computed.
