Two heat pump cycles operating with halogenated hydrocarbon mixtures are considered. Each cycle promotes vastly extended ranges of capacity control by composition shift. Further the Coeficient of Performance (COP) increases up to 50% under extreme temperature lifts when reciprocating compressors are employed. This is due to a reduction of the pressure ratio by a factor of more than two.
