The transient response (surface heat flow or internal temperatures) of a long solid cylinder to a time-dependent surface temperature can be accurately and economically determined over long periods of time by the response-coefficient method. In this paper, the response coefficients needed to obtain the variation of the surface heat flow with time are presented in a graphical form, and an illustrative example of a steel cylinder is discussed.
