Using z-transform techniques, a discrete system of so-called room weighting factors, referred to herein as thermal discrete transfer functions of a single-zone model, is established to analyze transient energy transfer phenomena in buildings. To begin with, significant definitions of thermal parameters and assumptions inherent in the model are identified. Load and temperature weighting factors are formulated on the superposition principle and derived by means of the z-(de)convolution process. The main results obtained show the room weighting factors in their compact form and also provide physical interpretations of the related thermal parameters.
