A detailed literature search has been completed on the specific topics of industrial hood design and performance. Analytical models and computer programs have been devised for different hoods of different applications. The main objective of this paper is to present and analyze the design equations developed by three researchers and discuss the range of validity of each design equation in terms of the geometrical parameters. This paper presents the general classification of hoods, with special emphasis on design of receptor hoods, for contaminant control Analytical results for remote receptor hoods under the influence of cross-drafts using different design equations are presented and compared with experimental measurements reported in the literature. Based on the comparisons, the range of validity of each design equation is discussed. Suggestions are also made for additional research in those areas where more information is needed.
