Describes a general steady-state model developed for simulating an air conditioning system. The model consists of various standard components such as evaporators, compressors, condensers, capillary tubes and heat exchanger fans. States that functional fits of manufacturers’ performance catalogue data of the individual components, along with thermodynamic relationships, have been used to model the air conditioning system. States the model is capable of simulating the response of an air conditioning system configuration for a variety of ambient and inside conditions. The functional fit equations describing the individual component characteristics are combined to form a set of simultaneous algebraic rate equations describing the system performance. Presents examples illustrating the model’s use.
