Presents and discusses the results of airflow characteristics in the occupied zone of 12 spaces with displacement ventilation. Finds relationships between mean velocity and turbulence intensity and finds maximum velocity and length scales of turbulence. Identifies turbulent energy spectra as being different within the occupied zone. Identifies serious risk of local discomfort due to draught and vertical temperature difference. Finds that the near zone around the outlet, within which predicted percent dissatisfied due to draught exceeded 15%, penetrated deep into the occupied zone. Compares the results with those from field studies in rooms with mixed ventilation and heated rooms with mechanical ventilation.
KEYWORDS: Air flow, draughts, comfort, ventilation, displacement ventilation, research, comparing, temperature difference.
