Responding to the need for a layman’s practical guide that presents the basic do’s and don’ts of HVAC system acoustical design, ASHRAE funded a research project that resulted in the development of a book of acoustical guidelines for HVAC system design and trouble-shooting. A combination of checklists, photographs, sketches and tables is used in the book with two intended goals. The guide promotes the concept of an “acoustical system effect,” an idea that is very similar to the well-known fan/duct “system effect.”
