The TC 4.7 simplified energy analysis procedure (SEAP) does not incorporate thermal mass as a factor in the estimation of heating and cooling energy requirements of buildings. ASHRAE Research Project RP-564 was initiated in part to develop a thermal treatment suitable for use in the SEAP. Describes a one-node thermal mass model suitable for incorporation into the SEAP. Complete equations necessary for implementation of the model are provided, and a detailed example is given that illustrates the use of the thermal mass model with the SEAP. The performance of the thermal mass model is described in a comparison paper (Balasubramanya et al. 1992).
