A predictive control policy that uses a finite-time horizon with end-time constraints is described. The control law minimises actuator movement while satisfying both process and control output constraints imposed at the end of the time horizon. A single user-definable parameter, directly related to the desired closed-loop settling time of the system, can be used to tune the controller. At commissioning, the algorithm automatically selects the appropriate sample rate, internal model, and control parameters. Open-loop tests illustrating this feature are presented. Finally, servo-regulatory response is presented for several HVAC applications to illustrate the performance of the algorithm.
