Two new fluorinated propane derivatives, six new fluorinated butane derivatives, and the R245ca(HCF2CF2CH2F)/338mccq(CF3CF2CF2CH2F) mixtures are investigated as R11 alternatives. The investigations on the pure chemicals included measurements of the melting point, boiling point, vapour pressure below the boiling point, heat of vaporisation at the boiling point, saturated liquid density, and critical properties (temperature and density). Four of the butane derivatives – R338mcfm, R356mffm, R356mecs, and R356mms – have boiling points comparable to that of R11 and have potential as far-term R-11 alternatives. The vapour pressures of the R245ca/338mccq mixtures were measured over the entire concentration range for temperatures ranging from 25degC (77degF) to 135degC (275degF). The mixtures form an azeotrope at 0.64 R245ca mole fraction with a normal boiling point of 22.6degC (72.7degF).
