In this study we determined the influences of a freezingpoint depressant on ice slurry characteristics in the formof ice slurry fluidity and microscale ice particle features. Use of the depressant affects microscale ice-particle features (such as surface roughness), greatly influencing slurry fluidity. The engineering of a workable and efficient ice slurry cooling system depends very strongly on the method of ice production and, in turn, on the characteristics of the individual ice particles in the slurry. Findings fromthis study provide information on the fluidity and handleability of slurries produced by several methods currently under development or already available.
