This month’s anniversary article is by Robert W. Flanagan, Fellow ASHRAE, who colleagues say was a visionary in variable air volume, load matching of chiller plants, and the design of building automation and control systems. Flanagan says “the school building, which is designed for today and for tomorrow must perform to a much greater degree of success and flexibility than the schools of the past, for in this world of technological advances, there is no end to what methods will be utilized in the schools of tomorrow.” His article is followed by a postscript by Tom Durkin, P.E., Member ASHRAE.
