Steam traps are special valves used throughout steam systems. They are installed in steam distribution piping, and on every steam heat exchanger. Every steam trap must do three important jobs to allow the steam system to operate at minimum cost: 1) it must be open in order to drain condensate; 2) it must close to prevent loss of steam; 3) it must open to vent air and other non-condensable gasses.
