1. Purpose and Scope

1.1 This test method is used to determinethe amount of color transferredfrom the surface of colored textile materialsto other surfaces by rubbing. It isapplicable to textiles made from all fibersin the form of yarn or fabric, whetherdyed, printed or otherwise colored andespecially to prints where the singling outof areas smaller than possible to testwith the standard crockmeter (AATCCMethod 8, Colorfastness to Crocking:Crockmeter Method) is required (see13.1 and 13.7).

1.2 Test procedures employing testsquares either dry or wet with water orother liquids are within the scope of thismethod.

1.3 Since washing, drycleaning, shrinkage,ironing, finishing, etc., may affectthe degree of color transfer from a material,the test may be made before or after,or before and after, any such treatment,depending upon the information desired.
