The compound 1,1,1,2 tetrafluorethane, HFC134a, has thermodynamic properties similar to those of CFC12 and has an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of zero. It has already been chosen for automotive air conditioning and home refrigerator applications. It continues to be evaluated for other refrigerating and air conditioning applications. Based on information on thermal stability, materials compatibility, and lubricants obtained in the last three years, there appear to be no critical issues affecting the application of HFC134a.
