Describes how an existing fire protection water storage pond was successfully retrofitted as a chilled water thermal energy storage tank. States the pond now serves the dual function of fire protection and chilled water storage without adversely affecting either function. As a chilled water storage tank, the pond is of unusual geometry and was perceived as a major challenge. Explains how an experimental model was used to assist the design and compares modelled and field results.
