Because the Ramona Apartments can’t rely on tenant behavior for saving energy, the designers created an exceptionally airtight and thermally efficient building envelope. This included laying out the building in a U shape and choosing the right combination of windows and walls. The result is a multifamily building that uses only 20 kBtu/ft2.
