Absorption chillers have good potential of employing thermal energy, such as waste heat, to produce chilled water for building cooling applications. In this study, various configurations of double-effect lithium bromide/water (LiBr/H2O) absorption chillers were analyzed and compared on the basis of the first and second laws of thermodynamics. These absorption chillers include parallel-flow, series-flow, and dual-loop flow type systems. Simulation of these systems was employed first to investigate the first law performances, while the properties, entropy, and exergy of the working fluids were also calculated to examine the second law efficiencies under different operating conditions. The performance of a single-effect absorption chiller was also analyzed for comparison purposes.
