Eight exterior air-barrier tapes were tested for performancein sealing joints between plywood panels in temporarywood-framed structures used by theU.S. Army. Outdoor exposuretesting over eight months was performed in conjunctionwith accelerated aging for four weeks using a QUV acceleratedweathering tester. Of the eight test samples, three acrylicbasedadhesive tapes showed the least degradation andasphalt-based adhesive tapes showed the greatest amount ofdegradation. Based on the initial results, two acrylic-basedadhesive tapes were selected for accelerated aging and testingof up to 12 weeks. Results from this second set of tests indicatethat these two tapes would be suitable for sealing plywoodjoints on the structures.
