Reports that, while conducting a study to characterise the energy requirements of the office building stock in the USA, several non-traditional techniques with potential application to future building stock studies were explored, developed and tested. These approaches involved systematic methods for integrating disparate data sources and automating certain energy modelling functions. Describes these approaches through comparisons with traditional methods and the methods used in the office building characterization study. Also provides illustrations of potential applications for these improved capabilities.
