Presents the experience gained by a hot water district heating company in designing, operating and maintaining a central telemetry system for the purpose of monitoring and supporting customer energy needs. The system includes more than 90 remote terminal units and meters, 30 miles of transmission cable and a central computer system and associated software. The information collected is stored in a relational data base that is linked with basic customer data files, weather data files and power plant production data files. States the telemetry system has been shown to be reliable and effective means of accurately monitoring and supporting customer energy requirements.
