A gas service corporation has funded development of a double-effect absorption heat pump (DEAHP) for the residential market. The performance targets for the heat pump are a coefficient of performance in cooling (COPc) of 0.80 and a coefficient of performance in heating (COPh) of 1.50, including electric power consumption. The company and its subcontractors have designed, fabricated, and tested a proof-of-concept prototype heat pump over the past several years. This effort has led to the design, fabrication, and planned testing and demonstration of a prototype, ready for field testing by 1991. The company is currently seeking a manufacturer/licensee for this technology to commercialize the DEAHP.
