Scope:This method describes a procedure for accelerating theevaluation of wood preservative formulations in soil contact. This is achieved by using thin wood test specimens that aresubjected to soil exposure under temperature and soilmoisture content (MC) conditions that are ideal for wooddecay by either soft-rot or basidiomycete fungi. This testmethod is intended to be a screening test. The method isparticularly useful for determining the effect of modifiedformulations on the performance of establishedpreservatives, but is also useful in screening newpreservative systems. In order to provide pertinentinformation, candidate preservative systems must becompared to similar preservatives that have documentedfield test performance records.
